Sandplay therapy, Symbol Work and the use of art in therapy are all “bottom-up therapeutic approaches”. This means that they utilize the wisdom of the body to promote psychological healing. We tend to think about stress and trauma as being stored only in the mind, however research has demonstrated that trauma is also experienced within the body. Therefore, these therapeutic approaches can help to integrate the experiences of the body and the mind for the purpose of processing and healing stress and trauma.
